Norbert Carl Alber, 85 of Bridgeport, Nebraska passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Heritage of Bridgeport.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at All Soul’s Catholic Church in Bridgeport with Fr. Neal Nollette officiating. Interment will follow at Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery with military honors. A prayer service will be Friday, May 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Bridgeport Memorial Chapel.
Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the chapel.
Memorials may given to the family to be designated at a later date.
Norbert Carl Alber was born march 2, 1927 in Cheyenne County, Nebraska at the family home to Alfred and Gertrude Alber. He attended Center School in Cheyenne County, NE. The family moved to Morrill County in 1935 and he attended Glendal School.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946. He married Helen Weitzel September 25, 1949 in Bridgeport. They were married 48 years. They raised their family in Bridgeport.
Farming and tilling the soil was the love of his life. He farmed with his brother-in-law Albert Weitzel for years on the family farm and then for the Lapaseotes family until his retirement.
In his retirement he loved woodworking projects trips to the casino and working in his garden and yard. He loved to dance especially square dancing.
He is survived by his long time companion Shirley Buffington; son Dick (Debra)Alber, daughter Patty (Rod) Swanson, daughter-in-law Ruth Ann Alber, granddaughters Tonja (Chad) Mitchell, Robyn (Chad) Jensen, Kensie (Edward) Walters, Jenny Swanson, April Warren, Amy (James) Vincent, Amber Alber, Aarika Alber, grandson A.J. Swanson; 8 great grandchildren; sister Mary Lou (Alber) Weitzel; and Shirley’s family: Patricia (Rex) Wilcox family, Dennis Boman, Gaylene (Larry) Boman family and Frank Boman.
Preceded in death by his wife Helen, son Norbert Lee, infant son Steven Ray, infant grandson Matthew Swanson; brother Maynard Alber and sister Inez Mitchell.
